2 Four in a Row game boards to print and laminate. First to get four in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - wins. Students roll dice, then choose a pets word from that number column to say in French. If correct, use a dry-wipe marker to put a symbol or initial in that box.
‘I have…Who has?’ Cards / Loop Game: consolidate pets vocabulary in phrases alongside some numbers. Print and laminate the 30 illustrated cards, which form a continuous loop so you can start with any one. Distribute among players. If they do, they reply in French, saying ‘J’ai…’ (I have…) and so on.
Active Oral Game - 36 game cards (18 identical pairs). Students are given a card each and move around to find the player with the matching card by asking and answering questions about pets. 2 versions: the first set has French prompts for lower ability or younger students and the other set has words in English only. If required, use a mixture of the two sets for differentiation.
Bingo / Noughts and Crosses (Tic Tac Toe): 8 cards for a group game of Bingo (the teacher or a student could read out words) or Noughts and Crosses (students take it in turns to say aloud a French pets word from their card). If cards are laminated, students could write on them with a dry-wipe marker.

This is a game to get students out of their seats, having short conversations about recreational activities. There are 36 game cards (2 of each design). The other replies with the information on their card (e.g. “J’aime cuisiner et jouer du piano.”). The second player can then ask the same question or use “Et toi?” (“And you?”) before the first player replies with the two activities on their card. If their information matches, they could say “Moi aussi!” (“Me too!”). Students who find their match could sit down to make it easier for remaining players to find their match. Versions included with French and English prompts.

MORE DETAILS:
Many slides in the original PowerPoint version feature answers that appear when you click, for students to respond. An additional PDF version is included. Please note the interactive Reveal the Picture game is not compatible with PDF and is therefore omitted from that version. Also included is a PDF of flash cards. All sports covered in the presentation feature in 3 versions - the names of the sports in French (with and without backgrounds), and a further version features the sports in verb phrases (jouer / faire etc).
The presentation focuses on 18 key sport words (badminton, baseball, basketball, cricket, football, American football, golf, ice hockey, rugby, tennis, table tennis, running, horse riding, gymnastics, cycling, karate, swimming, skiing) and linked questions and answers, such as ‘What sports do you do?’, and phrases linked to likes and dislikes in terms of sport.

FOUR IN A ROW: 4 different boards. Boards 1 to 3 feature 18 items, while Board 4 contains an extended range of 36. Print and laminate. Works well in A3 but A4 is good too. BATTLESHIPS-STYLE GRID GAME: 6 sets of 2 identical cards. Laminate and use dry-wipe pens. Players take the same number card as their opponent, place a cross in 4 boxes to choose clothing and colour, and ask questions to discover the location of their opponent’s crosses. ‘I HAVE…WHO HAS?’ GAME: Features 36 key words. 2 versions (one with an image on both sides to support lower ability or less experienced students). Print and laminate the cards, which form a continuous loop.

POWERPOINT
Includes cultural information about the fact that Halloween is not particularly celebrated in France and that French people are more likely to celebrate ‘La Toussaint’ on November 1st. Of course, French-speaking people elsewhere do celebrate Halloween so it’s a good chance to learn some fun vocabulary. The next few slides introduce more than 20 key words, one at a time, such as spider, black cat, broom, sweets, cemetery, bat, pumpkin, scarecrow, ghost, owl, moon, haunted house, monster, skeleton, witch, cauldron etc (in French of course). Following this, slides review these words, showing an image for students to give the word, with the answer appearing on the click of a mouse. Halloween-related French phrases are also taught, such as ‘I’m wearing a witch costume’ and ‘I’m scared’ and there are also slides teaching how to say ‘There are three black cats’ and ‘There are four spiders’ etc. There’s a slide with almost all key images on the screen for students to ‘splat’ with a fly swatter or equivalent (if displayed on a whiteboard) when the teacher calls out the words in French. NEWLY ADDED FOR 2019: There’s 2 rounds of an interactive Hexagons Game, where teams compete to make a trail of correct translations of Halloween vocabulary across the screen. Finally, the last 30+ slides form the memory game ‘Kim’s Game’, which could be played in teams, with students working out which images are missing each time and giving the word in French.
The additional PDF version of the presentation will help those without PowerPoint access. It allows you to teach the vocabulary but does not retain the mouse-click interactivity of the original. The Hexagons Game also does not work without the interactivity and has therefore been omitted from the PDF version.
FLASHCARDS
Most of the Halloween words (23 in total) feature on these for classroom display.
